A mobility summit that got attendees out walking.

The Shared-Use Mobility Center is a public-interest organization working toward equitable, affordable and environmentally sound mobility across the US. Its National Shared Mobility Summit brings that field together, and it came to Chicago.

Conference attendees spend most of the week in session rooms. The question the tour answered was a friendly one: if you have an hour between sessions or an evening free, what should you see? For a summit about how people move around cities, the answer was to put them on their feet, downtown, along the river and the lake.

A guided tour means booking guides, fixing a time and capping numbers. A self-guided tour let every attendee pick it up whenever it suited them.

It fits the schedule, not the other way around. A self-guided tour has no departure time. Attendees can do two stops at lunch and the rest after the closing session, on any day of the conference.

One link goes everywhere. An event code and QR code can go in the attendee app, the welcome email, a slide between sessions or a sign at registration. Attendees play in their phone's browser.

It lasts beyond the week. Anyone can take the Summit's tour with the code SUMC2023, which makes it a small, lasting piece of the event.
