The Simple Good raised $30,000+ with one city-wide hunt.

The 9th Annual Hunt for Good sent teams across 10 Chicago neighborhoods to find murals, sculptures and landmarks, and to do a few good deeds on the way. Our team mapped more than 100 challenges with the organizers and set up the scoring. Nearly 500 submissions later, the podium was set within two minutes of the final whistle.

A nonprofit that shares the meaning of "good" through art.

The Simple Good's mission is to share the meaning of "good" through art and to build a more empathetic, positive and connected world. Its flagship fundraiser, the Hunt for Good, is an annual tradition. Led by Founder and Executive Director Priya Shah, the organization reports serving more than 7,000 students across 16 communities in the United States.

Hundreds of photos. A handful of judges.

In past years, teams completed the hunt's tasks with photo-sharing apps like Instagram. With hundreds of people taking part, that meant hundreds of submissions to find, check and score, and a lot of manpower for setup, judging and game-day operations.

For the ninth annual hunt, the brief to Roamli had two halves: make the hunt more engaging and more of a game for the players, and make judging simpler for the people behind the scenes.

A city-wide art hunt, mapped with the organizers.

Our team worked closely with the Hunt for Good coordinators to put more than 100 challenges on an interactive map. Some were team "acts of good". Others sent players to find murals, sculptures, landmarks and other sights. The harder the challenge, the more points it was worth.

The hunt covered ten neighborhoods:

  • Streeterville
  • River North
  • River West
  • West Loop
  • The Loop
  • South Loop
  • Pilsen
  • Bronzeville
  • Hyde Park
  • Chinatown

The night before the event, every team received its game code and link. On the day, they played together on their phones, with no printed maps or brochures for the organizers to design, print or hand out.

Off to the races at 11 AM.

At the starting line, groups registered under the team names they had signed up with, which is what tied every point on the leaderboard to the right team for the next three hours. Then the clock struck 11 and the city filled up with teams in matching shirts.

Half the fun of a city-wide hunt is running into rival teams on a street corner. By the end, a few teams were neck and neck for the grand prize, and the day wrapped with a celebration at the Willis Tower.

Matching shirts, big energy, one good cause.

From final whistle to podium in two minutes.

Nearly 500 submissions came in over three hours. Instead of combing through a hashtag, judges worked through them challenge by challenge in Roamli's review tools while the game was still running. Within two minutes of the hunt's end, the top three teams were identified and the final standings went out to every player.

Why it was fast: Judging happened during the hunt, not after it. By the time the clock ran out, most of the reviewing was already done.

Over $30,000 for 400 students.

By the end of the after-party, the 9th Annual Hunt for Good had raised over $30,000 to provide summer programming for all 400 students in local Chicago communities.
